I don’t know why I didn’t post about this the other day because it’s clearly brilliant, brilliant news.

Arrested Development is coming back for another series that will lead into the film. This is excellent news not only because Arrested Development is one of the best TV shows ever and so it returning is obviously a very good thing but also because I have every faith that it will actually be just as brilliant as it was before it got cancelled. Not like other stuff that came back when it wasn’t needed. HELLO SCRUBS.

Ian did an excellent post about shows coming back (which is 100% factually correct) and much better than anything I’m ever going to write, so go read that and nod in agreement as you read it.

30 Day TV Challenge

Arrested Development

ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT

I have a feeling this show will be mentioned a lot during this challenge.

If you have never watched Arrested Development before then you are an idiot. Plain and simple. I’ll let Wikipedia explain what it’s about as it’ll be far more accurate than anything I type:

“The show’s storyline centers on the Bluth family, a formerly wealthy, habitually dysfunctional family and is presented in a continuous format, incorporating hand-held camera work, narration, archival photos, and historical footage.”

I’ve watched this show through about five or six times now and even on repeated viewings I still find jokes or references that I hadn’t noticed before. I’ve heard people disregard it for being “american comedy” and therefore not funny but it has way more in common with British comedy stylings than a typical US show.

The show was cancelled in its third season – either down to poor advertising from the network or just because it was an intelligent, genuinely funny show and people are fucking morons.

The cast is really great, we have Michael Cera before he was famous, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, David Cross, Jeffrey Tambor and a whole host of brilliant guest stars. I think my favourite character is tied between Buster and Tobias. Tony Hale totally nails the character of Buster and I struggled to take him seriously in anything else (he was in Chuck for a bit as an unruly store manager) and just expect him to say something Buster-esque. I think it’s the mannerisms that do it mainly.

There are talks of an Arrested Development film being made but I can’t figure out if it’ll be terrible or not.
